Nagyrév, Hungary. Where silence holds a century of stories. Inside the village's Reformed church, time seems to move at a different pace. The wooden pews, the pale light through the windows, the stillness of a place that has witnessed generations of ordinary lives and extraordinary events. I have returned to Nagyrév to continue a documentary project that is becoming increasingly fascinating, and far more complex than I first imagined. Some places reveal their stories immediately. Others ask you to listen, to look more carefully, and to spend time understanding what lies beneath the surface. Nagyrév is one of those places. For now, I am listening, researching, photographing, and slowly putting the pieces together. Some stories deserve patience before they are told. #Nagyrév #Hungary #DocumentaryPhotography #BlackAndWhitePhotography #VisualStorytelling #PhotographyProject

Venice at blue hour. The sky goes deep before the city lets go of the day. The palace glows from within. Gothic arches, pink and white stone, a winged lion watching from the corner. A few figures cross the square. They are only shadows. The pavement keeps the lamplight. This is the hour when Venice stops performing. No crowds, no noise. Just stone, light and time. Patience is the whole technique. Wait for the moment when sky and lamps agree. #venice #palazzoducale #dogespalace #bluehour #veniceitaly #leica

The windows are still recognisable, but their straight lines have become wonderfully unreliable. Reflected in the canal, the façades stretch and bend, with the orange wall holding the composition together. This is something I enjoy about photographing Venice: returning to familiar surroundings and finding a different photograph within them. For a reflection like this, give yourself a little time before moving on. Watch how the shapes change, and decide how much of the scene you need to include. The whole building may be less interesting than a small part of its reflection. That attention to place is behind my guide, Venice Beyond the Obvious. It brings together 275 places with map pins, reference photographs and practical notes, helping you choose where to explore and spend time looking. The empty chair across the canal is the detail that holds my attention here. The brick archway gives the eye somewhere to go, but the chair gives it somewhere to stay. Around them, the worn walls, green water and reflections make a photograph from an otherwise ordinary corner of Venice. When choosing where to walk with a camera, I look for places that leave room for this kind of observation. You can spend an entire morning moving between famous views, but there is also value in covering less ground and paying closer attention to what is in front of you. That approach shapes my guide, Venice Beyond the Obvious: 275 places, including photographic locations, cafés, gardens and artisan workshops, with map pins, reference photographs and practical notes to help you plan your visit. Autumn in Szentgyörgyvölgy, in the Őrség. Mist softens the edges of the village, but the green of the fields holds its own. Among the trees and scattered roofs, the church tower gives the eye somewhere to settle. What draws me to this scene is how much remains visible even as the distance disappears. There is enough detail to explore, and enough left unresolved to keep looking. #orseg #hungary

Very happy to be heading back to lovely Nagyrév later this week. I’m working on a photographic writing project here, and I’ve been looking forward to returning ever since my first visit. I’ll keep the details to myself a little longer, while the work takes shape. For now, I’m looking forward to walking these streets again, spending more time with the people I’m getting to know, and seeing what I notice on a second visit. A photograph from the first chapter, with more to come. #nagyrév #leica #photography
